We often find ourselves chasing after what will bring us an ounce of joy. This constant search for contentment can be draining, and leave one feeling lost and unsatisfied.
I myself have been a victim of this battle. I have a story that comes to mind right as I am putting this blog together. I had been wanting some new Jeans for a while, and even though I did not need them, or necessarily want them, I found myself scrolling through a website, in search of some new clothing.
I bought a few pairs, and after stressing as I watched the money leave my wallet, I reflected on my careless and loose decision.
What was the desire behind this hurried purchase?
I did not really care to have the jeans that much, and the new additions to my wardrobe would not bring me any extra happiness, yet I still had bought them
It was because I wanted to validate myself, I was not secure, and thought that I was not good enough, unless I had these stylish jeans. I had purchased those pants in order to feel satisfied, feeding my insecurities.
I have traveled a long way mentally from those days, but I still sometimes fall into the trap of validating myself, whether it be from materials or from people; we are all guilty of this.
Happiness does not come from how many friends a person has, or the number of admirers they possess. Joy is not found in money or power, but from something else entirely.
If you travel to some of the most impoverished places in the world, you will find that there is a very interesting factor. These people do not have money or nice clothing, they work hard every day, but through it all, they are some of the most triumphant groups in the world.
"Happiness does not come from one's circumstances, but from one's focus", that was a quote spoken by the prophet Russell M Nelson.
There was once a man who served his whole life, he was the perfect example of joy and love, that person is Jesus Christ.
Let us remember, that we can only find true peace and hope from God, for his love is unconditional.
